Our Post meetings are held at 212 Gloriette (Sacramento Mt. Senior Center) in Cloudcroft, New Mexico on the second Saturday of the month (except when the first Saturday or Sunday is a holiday). We received our Charter October 12, 2002. Our geographical area includes the entire southern portion of the Sacramento Mountains south of the Mescalero Reservation, including the communities of Cloudcroft, Mayhill, Timberon, Weed, Sacramento, Sunspot, High Rolls and many subdivisions throughout the southern Sacs.
We have a Color Guard and occasionally may substitute for an official Honor Guard for burials at local cemeteries. Our Color Guard normally leads every parade in Cloudcroft. The Chamber of Commerce holds several events during the year and the VFW Post is there to play Reveille, Retreat or Taps, as required, and to conduct Buddy Poppy drives, membership drives, and just have a good time. As part of our Community Service responsibilities, we have adopted two (2) miles of US 82 east of Cloudcroft, and we clean, cut and mow the James Canyon Cemetery. We also conduct the annual Veterans Charity Golf Tournament at "The Lodge at Cloudcroft" golf course (altitude approximately 9000 feet) to raise money for our veterans in need.
We have, for the previous 5 years, invited soldiers and families in the Warriors in Transition Battalion at Fort Bliss to Cloudcroft for 3 days, 2 nights, all expenses paid. Virtually the entire community steps forward to assist, doing all they can to ensure these heroes and their families thoroughly enjoy their time in Cloudcroft. As a result, in 2017 we were selected to receive the prestigious Fred C. Hall Memorial Outstanding Post Special Project Award, an award given to only one Post nationwide, each year.
We are a Post without a hall or building, without a bar or bingo, and without much money,.........but we sure have a good time, and are appreciated by our neighbors and fellow citizens in Cloudcroft.
